Rinasce il basket ad Ottaviano con due formazioni: una maschile e una femminile. Il Gymnasium Ottaviano, squadra di basket femminile, militerà nel campionato di Serie C Regionale mentre il Basket Vesuviers Ottaviano, squadra di basket maschile, disputerà il campionato di Prima Divisione.

Giovedì 12 Novembre 2009, presso la Sala Consiliare del Comune di Ottaviano, alle ore 21:00, ci sarà la presentazione delle squadre e dei rispettivi staff tecnici. Il primo match della squadra femminile è programmato per Sab 14-11-2009 alle 17:30 presso il Palazzetto dello Sport - Loc. Casale - Via Casale - FORIO (NA)  contro l’A.S. Forio Basket.

“La città di Ottaviano ha da sempre vantato una grande tradizione nel mondo dello sport. Discipline sportive come il calcio e la pallavolo hanno caratterizzato e caratterizzano tuttora il nostro territorio. Anche il basket è stato indiscusso protagonista negli anni passati. Ricordare l’avventura delle ragazze della “Vetrerie Vebad” e della “Imper” che per anni hanno estasiato il pubblico ottavianese in serie A1 e A2 mi riporta indietro di tanti anni.”, queste le parole dell’assessore allo Sport del Comune di Ottaviano, Nello Di Palma che presiederà alla presentazione delle squadre nella  Sala Consiliare del Comune di Ottaviano.
